This letter is to introduce you to the Wyoming State Shooting Association (WSSA), and ask for your support of WSSA.

WSSA is the state affiliate of the NRA, and is responsible for approving state championship matches in the NRA disciplines.  WSSA is also responsible for legislative initiatives in Wyoming through it’s political action committee WSSAPAC.

WSSA has over 400 individual members, as well as 16 clubs in the state.   Other activities of WSSA are operating the air rifle/air pistol booth at the Wyoming Hunting and Fishing Expo each September in Casper , supporting junior shooting teams and individuals in national level competition, and making service rifles available to members for use in statewide matches.

In the past the WSSAPAC has been instrumental in getting the “shall issue” concealed carry law through the legislature, and well as the  “preemption” and “range protection” laws.  The “preemption” law allows you to travel throughout Wyoming without concern for breaking local firearms laws as long as you are in compliance with state statutes.  The “range protection” law stops attempts to close ranges for noise problems as long as the range was there first.  Also, to allow concealed carry permittees who are outside the US on active duty to renew their permit when they return to the US , even if the six month statutory renewal period had elapsed

In upcoming sessions WSSAPAC will sponsor legislation to confirm that a person does not need a permit to carry a pistol in your glove box, to remove restrictions on where permittees may legally carry concealed firearms, and a change in the hunting statutes to make it clear that possession of a class three firearm is not illegal, but the firearm cannot be used to take wildlife.  Finally, WSSAPAC is again supporting a change in the concealed carry law to an “Alaska” style law, which means anyone who can legally own a firearm in Wyoming would be able to carry concealed without any special permit (those wishing to get a permit to take advantage of the reciprocity Wyoming has with 27 other states would still be able to do so).

The WSSA needs as many members as possible in order to help get firearms friendly laws enacted, and to continue it’s success in promoting the shooting sports.

Please consider joining WSSA.  The annual fee is only $15.00 ($100.00 for life membership).  Contact WSSA, 625 Sweetwater St. , Lander, WY 82520, or see wyssa.info
