WSSA Minutes Sept 12, 2012
Pres M Spungin called the meeting to order at 5:05PM at Casper’s Ramada Inn Coffee shop. Board present: VP Bev Spungin, Sec/Tr Sebesta, & Hunt/Cons Phil Morgan. Three members attended.
The May 5, 2012 annual meeting minutes were read. M by Bev, 2nd Phil to approve as read. VV+ The Treasure reported a checking balance of $3239.81 as of 9/8/2012. M/ D French, 2nd D Ament to approve. VV+ Membership 798.
OLD BUSINESS 1] Emailing the newsletter saved nearly $600; 11 have asked for hard copy. 2] No information available on the Kern case appeal. 3] John Lancaster accepted the Daisy 888 and the TV/VCR for use with the Horseshoe Livestock 4-H club. 4] WSSFoundation funds were discussed. M/ Morgan, 2nd French to place foundation money into the WSSA junior program. 5] Rep Kendal Kroecker won in the primary by 3 votes; no opposition in general. Kit Jennings lost and we lost a friend in the legislature. 5] EXPO range set up & ready.
NEW BUSINESS 1] Rep Kroecker and others are expected to reintroduce legislation to curtail the free crime areas. 2] 2013 will be WSSA election of officers; notice to be placed in newsletter. 3] Sec/Trea asked for suggestions on running the rifle raffle if no hard copies newsletters are sent. Discussion held shows the need for a hard copy to aid in address updates and expected a better return than if members are asked to print, cut and fill out tickets from the web site. 4] Winter meeting date set for Jan 5, 2013 with alternate date the 12th in Casper. 5] M/B Spungin to purchase 2 sets of high power training DVD’s with a $100 total maximum set. 2nd French. Hunting & Conservation- Phil Morgan. Big game season are underway. Oct 1st wolf season for the 1st time. Dry, fires in areas disrupting some hunts. G&F wanting to increase fees, saying their expenses are up and it has been a few years since an adjustment has been made. M/Spungin,2nd Ament to send G&F a letter in opposition to any fee increase. Discussion on changing the ‘all wildlife’ in G&F mission to ‘all hunted/fished’. VV+ G&F have expressed support for the use of suppressors in the field.
Junior programs- Dudley Irvine thru Sebesta reported the increase in 4-H shooting participants. WY Catholic College has shown increased interest in shooting and has been invited to join the Lander Junior program.
Competition Phil Morgan read the HP/SR champion report sent by Roy Bane. Roy is hospitalized after a horse wreck. Phil added the Camp Perry report telling the story of the 2 junior and 2 coaches trip. Thanks to Ken Langford for paying all junior entry fees at State SR/HP Championships
CLUBS- 1] LVSA outdoor season completed, moving indoors with SB and air guns.
2] Thermopolis ran 4-H rifle and shotgun all summer. Completed range repair/upgrades included fencing and gravel. 3] Laramie range hosted the HP/SR championships to showcase their new upgraded facility. They plan to seek funds from NRA Foundation and local recreation board.
